Examine ATOVD sample instructional materials

Site Council examined ATOVD series sample Positive Action.  Positive Action is a science-based instructional program intended to help students avoid alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and violence.  It also is structured to meet the youth development criteria.  This program:

1.      1.      Requires 36 to 81 lesson days.

2.      2.      Requires consumable workbooks.

3.      3.      Covers grades K-12.

4.      4.      Requires a lot of pencil/paper response activity by students.

5.      5.      Costs approximately $5,000 to implement grades K-8 plus an additional undetermined amount to implement grades 9-12.

Site Council discussed program and costs and felt too much class time and too much money would be required to implement this program.  We would like to continue examining science research-based ATOVD programs.

Revisit math supplemental instructional and assessment materials (especially on-line assessment) – no new materials available, still looking

IV.

Discuss Walk-Through Program both for cost and for availability of a program that is more suited to our small population.

California Weekly Explorer was contacted for information on adaptability of programs to our small population.  They recommend a student group of no fewer than 15 students and are hesitant about Junior High age level groups participating.  With that in mind Site Council still likes the program and would like to continue using it.  We will set aside $630 and try to work with California Weekly Explorer to accommodate our small population of students.

Discuss participation in Criterion Writing Program for 2006/2007 school year

We are currently using the Criterion Writing Program for grades 7-8 and for grade 4.  This is a pilot program offered to us 2005/2006 school year for Owens Valley Elementary School because of our participation in field testing CST Writing Tests.  Criterion Writing Program offers a Year 2 Pilot program for 2006/2007 at the rate of $9.00 per participating student per year.  We would like to participate at least for grades 4-8.  M / Sc Paula Riesen / Debbie Bonnefin – Approved Unanimously
