Participation in the classroom should be left to the discretion of the teacher. Teachers may take class time and incorporate the activity into their writing program, or they may allow students a choice of participation outside of class time
Topic: Spending the day with someone from the past that
you admire.
Length of Writing:
K-2: If included, young students could illustrate a picture and provide a caption. Depending on grade, length of caption or “story” could be judged
Grade 3-4: 150-200 word essay.
Grade 5-8: 200-450 word essay.
Grade 9-12: 450-550 word essay.
Style:
Grades K-6: may be handwritten or typed
Grades 7-12: must be typed
Judging:
Students writing will be assigned a number. No names will be assigned to the work.
Judging should be focused on the overall value of the writing
